Maués is one of the most beautiful city in the Amazonas, knowned as the "Guaraná city" because yet the very firt unhabitants, the mundurucus and maués indios, knowned and cultivated it.
The Maués name means "talking parrots" and comes from one of the indios clan that lived in the region.
The city hosts some of the most famous beaches of the state.
The municipal area is 39.989 Km² extended with a urban population about 22.000 unhabitants and a rural one with another 20.000 people distribuited within 140 villages spreaded along the rivers. Maués is located on the side of Maués-Açu river and can be reached from the capital city (Manaus) by boat with a 20 hours trip or by 40 minuts plane flight.
